The Responsibilty of a Jedi

Note: This page is courtesy of Master Hawk, from the original Master Dion Starkiller, unless otherwise indicated.

A Jedi is confronted with decisions every day. All beings are, However the result of a Jedi's decisions can be and often are more crucial that that of the average moisture farmer who only has to decide which R2 unit he wants to buy... ummm bad example =)

Put yourself in the position of a diplomat. In the golden times of the Republic, Jedi were often seen as diplomats and judges. This is because we gain a wisdom and are impartial, we will do what is right and honest, whether it is a dispute over some produce, or a blockade of an entire planet by a greedy federation. Consider yourself flying through the atmosphere of a planet that has expressed interest in becoming part of the Republic. (For arguements sake we will call this planet Australia.) As you approach the surface of the planet you see that the capital city is engulfed in a huge war with another faction on the planet. Clearly these people are suffering and are tearing themselves apart as isolated planets often do. You ship comes under attack, you have been seen by both sides as the enemy. What do you do? Think about it for a moment.....

This is a planet of people that you do not know, that you have flown a great distance to help and they are shooting at you. What do you do? Return fire? Disable their weapons? Destroy their capital? I'll tell you what you do. Trust in the Force. Do not return fire of any kind. Take evasive actions: if that means you flee the scene, than that is precisely what you can do. If you can make it to your rendevous point, then that will be your course of action. A Jedi never wounds something to heal it, a Jedi will always pursue the non-aggressive path.

So what is there to learn from this? If you are saying nothing, then that is exactly what you will take away from this lesson. Know this ancient saying from the Jedi scrolls, "With great power comes great responsibility". There is no greater power than the Force, as a Jedi we must exercise disgression and wisdom when we use the Force. That is our responsibility to the power. You are all growing strong my students, I feel the Force flowing through you, all Jedi you shall be, some stronger, some more dedicated, and some great teachers. But you all will have great responsibilty.

Use the Force wisely my young Padawans and it will be with you, Always.
